Graduate School-HalfwayMark

I got a break in between classes, and I figured I would drop a blog to give my readers a quick status update. I just hit the halfway mark with graduate school, and I wish I could say that it is all down hill from here. I just finished one of my hardest classes to date (Quantitative Analysis), and getting ready to start Managerial Economics. I only have six classes to go till I get my MBA. It is getting harder to balance school life with work life and personal life. It feels like I am juggling ticking time bombs and sooner than later one of them will explode, and it will be all over. At this point, I am just trying to do my best to maintain, and keep focused. I know the sacrifice that my family and I is making will be all worth it in the end. I am learning a lot though. The more classes I take, the more things make sense. I started this journey of "going back to school" because there was so many questions that I needed answers to. Before I started back for my bachelor's, I felt that I already knew how to start a business. Once I finished with undergrad, I felt I now know how to run a business. Now that I am going for my MBA, I'm learning that this is teaching me how to make tough decisions within a business. Even after I finish these last six classes, I still may not have all of my questions answered, but I'm okay with that. As long as I continue to seek knowledge, I will find it. One of my professors said that when you are hired with an MBA, you are looked upon to make decisions and depending on how things turn out, the wrong decision could potential cost you your job. You are looked upon for answers and you have to be able to provide them. The MBA program is teaching/equipping me with the knowledge needed to find those answers. I think about that everyday while studying, and look at it as a big deal. I want to be the type of leader that either knows the answer or knows exactly how to find the answer.

I am still in the process of figuring out my career path. If you read my blogs before, you know my struggle on figuring out exactly what I want to do. Its frustrating though. It seems like once I choose a career, I always find something in that career that won't work. For an example, just recently I was sure that I wanted to maybe get into consulting, but then I started thinking about how much traveling you will have to do. And from further research I found that the consultants most in demand are the ones that specialize in statistics, accounting, marketing, and technology-which neither one are my strong points. I'm optimistic though. That this 34 year old will figure out his career path in life. I just hope to have it figured out before I graduate next spring. Till next time.

Oh by the way, my eldest daughter turns 4 tomorrow...Wow its crazy how time flies....

  1. You're almost there, man. Just hang in there and finish strong. You got this. And keep in mind that you're setting a good example for those little girls.

    1. Thanks Scott... Its tough man... One of the hardest things that I have done in my life. I have never been a quitter though.
